A few months later we discovered that the owner of The Little Store had been diagnosed with a major illness and had closed the restaurant. We were contacted by the owner of the building and presented with the opportunity,,, knowing the long history of the store and it’s importance to all of the past, present and future high school students, we came together and decided to purchase the restaurant and reopen. The Little Store is really a staple of North Kansas City, it originally opened in 1938, we felt a strong need to keep the 77 year tradition alive!
In the time The Little Store has been open we couldn’t ask for more support from the students, NKC alumni, northtown community and all of our friends and families. This is the first chapter in our story, we can’t wait to see what the future holds for us!!
This adventure really began in early August of 2008, one half of The Little Store owners (Ron & Amy Knight) had decided to purchase a youth football team, the second half (Phil & Holly Shaver) were trying to find a team for their 8 year old son. We found the Rams football team, the first season was pretty rough, we were made up mostly of kids that had been cut from other teams, we didn’t win a game, I don’t believe we even scored the first year, however, little did we know at the time, we had found our new best friends.
Fast forward five and a half years, Ron and Amy had moved into North Kansas City in order for their son Michael, a freshman in high school to be able to go to Northtown. Our daughter Caitlin had graduated high school, was a freshman in college and our son Logan was finishing junior high, getting ready to start high school in the fall. We had to make a move so we bought a house in North Kansas City and moved to the community.
